Where you are now is an old dream

IMG_9384.jpg

Thanks to Ashley for sharing this today.

Sometimes we forget how far we’ve come.

A wise man gave me some advice once: Take 10 minutes and write out all the positive experiences, things, feelings, etc that you have had in the past 10 years that you didn’t have 10 years prior.

It may take a bit to get going, but once you start to realize all the things you’ve been blessed with over the past 10 years, they start flowing like a waterfall.

Take some time to sit in gratitude and to realize that dreams do come true  🙂

Happy dreaming my friends!

Better for the rest

I’ve been jamming to Macklemore lately.

I really like the song: Excavate

He talks about how he measures success through his impact on the world and his daughter, not accolades, awards or etc.

I love it.

One of my favorite stanzas:

“The greatest fear that I’ve ever kept is dying with regrets.

Like was I just alive for success

Or did I leave a better life for the rest?”

I love that thought!

This morning, I was watching birds come and go to the bird feeder outside. They swooped in, swooped out, squabbled, nit picked and dropped a bunch of seeds on the ground. Later, a squirrel came up and started eating the seeds from the ground.

I doubt the birds planned to feed the squirrel. But as humans. I do feel that our lives should at least be in part about making the word better for those who come after us.

I am grateful for my amazing life, and I am grateful that I can decode to try to leave the world better for those who come after :-).

Learn, Commit, Do (repeated)

“Moving along the upward spiral requires us to learn, commit and do on increasingly higher planes. We deceive ourselves if we think that any one of these is sufficient. To keep progressing, we must learn, commit and do–learn, commit and do—and learn, commit and do again.”-Stephen R Covey

learn commit do

In other words: complacency kills progress. 🙂

Love the process and keep learning, committing and doing!

Happy Thursday,

Dr. Lindeman

Mountains today to bigger tomorrows

Thank you for sharing this Jessica!

“Choosing opportunities with an eye to the future strengthens our current motivation. Sometimes when we have an abundance of energy in the present moment it is easy to take on more tasks than we are able to do. Having passion for what we are doing keeps us stimulated at first, but we often wind up losing our momentum later on if we can’t see where our opportunities will take us. By making the effort to think about what you will take on and how that will impact your future, however, you will generate greater excitement for your projects. You will now know that what you start today will have a greater payoff tomorrow.”

In other words, look to the mountain for sure, but also realize that when you climb that peak, there will be amazing things to see/do/accomplish in the future as well!

Grit not grade…and ice cubes

Too often we place our emphasis on our goals. Goals are incredibly important but we should put more impetus on the grit it takes to progress toward the goal. And when we get close to a goal, we need to create new ones. Progress is key not the finish line.

“Complaining about not achieving success despite working hard is like complaining about an ice cube not melting when you heated it from twenty-five to thirty-one degrees. Your work is not wasted; it is just being stored. All the action happens at thirty-two degrees.” James Clear “Atomic Habits”

The Fire

This song is great to get your inspiration warmed up. Make sure you let your fire burn today!

The Fire by The Roots

Oh, the fire, the fire
Oh, the fire, the fire
There’s something in your heart
And it’s in your eyes
It’s the fire
Inside you
Let it burn
You don’t say good luck
You say don’t give up
It’s the fire
Inside you
Let it burn
Yeah, and if I’m ever at the crossroads
And start feeling mixed signals like Morse code
My soul starts to grow colder than the North Pole
I try to focus on the whole of where the torch goes
In the tradition of these legendary sports pros
As far as I can see, I’ve made it to the threshold
Lord knows I’ve waited for this a life time
And I’m an icon when I let my light shine
Shine bright as an example of a champion
Taking the advantage, never copping out or canceling
Burn like a chariot, learn how to carry it
Maverick, always above and beyond average
Fuel to the flame that I train with and travel with
Something in my eyes says I’m so close to having the prize
I realize I’m supposed to reach for the skies
Never let somebody try to tell you otherwise
There’s something in your heart
And it’s in your eyes
It’s the fire
Inside you
Let it burn
You don’t say good luck
You say don’t give up
It’s the fire
Inside you
Let it burn
One love, one game, one desire
One flame, one bonfire, let it burn higher
I never show signs of fatigue or turn tired
‘Cause I’m the definition of tragedy turned triumph
It’s David and Goliath; I made it to the eye of the storm
Feeling torn like they fed me to the lions
Before my time starts to wind down like the Mayans
I show ’em how I got the grind down like a science
It sounds like a riot on hush; it’s so quiet
The only thing I hear is my heart–I’m inspired
By the challenge that I find myself standing eye to eye with
Then move like a wise warrior and not be a coward
You can’t escape the history that you was meant to make
That’s why the highest victory is what I’m meant to take
You came to celebrate, I came to cerebrate
I hate losing; I refuse to make the same mistake
Oh, the fire, the fire
Oh, there’s something in your heart
(The fire)
There’s something in your heart
(The fire)
There’s something in your heart
And it’s in your eyes
It’s the fire
Inside you
Let it burn
You don’t say good luck
You say don’t give up
It’s the fire
Inside you
Let it burn
Oh, the fire
Inside you
The fire
Inside you
The fire
Inside you

Stepping or running forward

Sometimes your life can feel like this

Other times it can feel like you are flying through it, gaining progress at break neck speed..

The key isn’t the pace, but the consistency of stride. And the passion you attach to either scenario. We need to love the process, love the steps forward no matter if we gain a lot of ground with each movement. Love yourself a d the process unconditionally!

Have a lovely day!!

Imaginary friends

Worry and hope are two sides of the same coin. Both are beliefs about things that have not happened yet. We can choose which one of those friends we want to hang out with. Why not choose the one that uplifts our spirits, normalizes blood pressure, sends out positive vibes to those around us, and helps release oxytocin and dopamine so we actually feel better? It’s always our choice 🙂

From Knowledge to Wisdom

To attain knowledge, add things everyday. To attain wisdom, remove things every day.

-Lao Tse

wisdom

We are always learning.

We live in a world where so much knowledge is at our fingertips (quite literally).

It isn’t hard to do an internet search and find the answer to almost any question we can come up with.

Access to information is not a problem.

They key to true learning and growth is wisdom.

We need to unlearn what isn’t serving us.

We need to take the knowledge we have and apply it so it becomes part of who we are.

We also need to do a brain-dump every now and then. Figure out what you no longer need in your life and cut it out.

Work on learning, definitely.

But also focus on turning knowledge into wisdom in order to create a brighter future.
