Going to Mars

My father told me that I could do anything
Don’t know why I don’t believe in, myself
My fears, they permeate the walls that I’ve made, with my hate
It’s getting harder to see it

But I know, do what is right, fight for the truth
Say something to them that means something to you
Invest in the love, hope for the best
Follow what’s in the left side of your chest
Be ready for highs, be ready for lows
A dream is a dream until you go
Through the mistakes, you’ll find who you are
Don’t reach for the moon when you’re going to Mars
We’re going to Mars

‘Cause we can do anything we want
We can do anything, it’s who we are
We can do anything
We’re going to Mars

Our legs are more than just finding ways to get through the hump
Wanting more than just breathing
My mother told me that I could do, anything and
I think I’m starting to see it

But I know forget the lies, remember the truth
Sing something to them that means something to you
Invest in the love, give it your best
Follow what’s in the left side of your chest
Be ready for highs, be ready for lows
Dream is a dream until you go
Make some mistakes, don’t forget who you are
Don’t reach for the moon when you’re going to Mars
We’re going to Mars

‘Cause we can do anything we want
We can do anything, it’s who we are
We can do anything
We’re going to Mars

Sandwiches

At a construction site in the Midwest, all the workers would sit down together for lunch. Every day Brian would open his lunch pail and complain. “Son if a gun, not pb&j again! I hate peanut butter and jelly!”

He whines about his peanut butter and jelly everyday until finally one day another worker said “for cripes sakes Brian, if you hate pb&j have your wife make you something different!”

Brian said “what do you mean, wife? I’m not married. I make my own sanwhiches.”

Our lives are created by us :-). Complaints usually hold no merit. Get busy forging the life we want and forget about bitching about “sandwiches”

Check in with yourself (and fuzzle wuzzle?)

dr-seuss

A great thing to do throughout your day, take a moment to say to yourself “I am doing the best I can in this moment, and I also know I can do better :).” (Adapted from The Miracle Morning book)

Be happy in the now with big dreams of the future.

Also know that NOONE can do exactly what you do, because it is utterly true, there is only one of you. (That sounded a little Dr. Seuss-ish, you can throw a fuzzle wuzzle in there for good measure.)

Reminders to focus

Reminders to focus

This morning, as I was writing a chapter titled “Your Monkey Mind.” I was reminded of all the information we are bombarded with every day. I did a bit of research via my good friend Google and found this article: https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/creativity-without-borders/201405/the-myth-multitasking.

It discusses the myth of the positive aspects of multi-tasking. In actuality, multi-tasking is really a whole bunch of starts and stops on different activities. It is not smooth in any way. The article discusses an experiment: write two lines on a piece of paper. Have someone time you (or Google an on-line stopwatch and use that).

Start the timer On the top line write out numbers 1-27. Then on the bottom line write out the letters A-Z. Record the final time.

Now draw two lines again. This time, write top line and bottom line one at a time. I.e: Write 1 on the top line then A on the bottom, 2 on the top, B on the bottom. Simple, right? I bet if you do this activity, you will more than double the time it took to complete the first activity.

It is a good exercise to remind ourselves to FOCUS. So that is what I am working on today, focusing 100% to the task at hand. Focus 100% on the person I have been given the opportunity to serve. Focus on the here and now 🙂

Decisions

Last night at our regional meeting (a group of Chiropractors and Chiropractic Assistants get together to discuss/present how we can better serve our patients) a recurring theme was “decisions.”

Dr. Orlando (a good friend and doctor) stated “We have a “fight” between who we were that got us to where we are, and who we want to be who will get us to where we want to go. It’s about who we choose to follow.”

Then I received this from The Notes From The Universe email (you should definitely check it out if you haven’t subscribed): “Everyone, Joel, lives the life of their choosing. Not just what they chose, but what they are choosing.”

Then I read this before bed in my Miracle Morning book “…all that matters is that you and I are committed to leaving the past in the past and making our lives exactly the way we want them to be, starting today.”

Sense a theme?

Our life is a conglomerate of decisions. Small ones. Big ones. Gargantuan ones. Our future is determined by how we decide, which road we take, and who we want to be in this very moment.

Be choosy my friends 😉

Businessman choosing the right door

Satisfied Striver

Don’t fall into maladaptive perfectionism: having high standards (which is a good thing) but always beating yourself up for small imperfections (not a good thing). Be a Satisfied Striver: Happy in the now with big dreams of the future, and knowledge you can improve.

“I am careful not to confuse excellence with perfection. Excellence I can reach for; perfection is God’s business.”-Micheal J Fox
