“Maybe Happiness is Sometimes.”

I just finished the book, “Maybe You Should Talk to Someone” by Lori Gottlieb. It is a great book!

I loved the statement one of her patients made to her “Maybe happiness is sometimes.”

Too often, we humans think in absolutes and extremes.

I am happy or I am sad.

I am “all in” or I am doing nothing.

I am successful or I am a failure.

Life doesn’t work that way.

In fact:

————————————-The spectrum between extremes is long and beautiful—————————–

I believe that when we focus on the extremes, it gives us a reason to gravitate toward one end of that spectrum, and more often than not, it’s the side we want to be on.

The truth is, life is full of ups and downs, big wins, small failures, big failures, tiny victories, extreme jubilation, crippling depression, laughing out loud’s, chuckling very quietly’s, overwhelming fear, extreme confidence… and everything in between.

When we give too much power to the extremes in life, it renders our true existence powerless.

We need to realize that life is a conglomerate. And it is ok to be happy or victorious or depressed or successful SOMETIMES.

We can even substitute “sometimes” for “most times” on many of these things (and if we looked at our lives, we probably would realize we gravitate more toward the positive side than the negative) and that is truly O.K.

In fact, that is why we are alive.

So, today, try not to focus on extremes. Realize that being somewhere along the scale is where we are supposed to be that moment, and that we can tip the scales in the direction we choose.

We don’t have to be successful or happy all the time (in fact, if that is our goal, we are doomed for failure).

Realize, life is a journey and no matter where we are right now, we can choose to get back on the ride and enjoy ALL OF IT.

Have a wonderful Wendesday!

Today…

I Read this today: “No matter what, you’ll never get today back”.
Truth.

But I also think we can read that and think “we better make today amazing” and that’s not the best policy either.

I think the key is to know today whether an amazing day at work or a mediocre one at best, a day of sunshine, birds singing or stormy and cold. Today cannot be saved.

It must be savored.

So the best policy is to be fully IN it today. Be present, appreciate today for being today. Connect with others, give and receive some love and appreciate the fact that today is finite.

You will never get today back.

-Happy Tuesday!

Lasting fulfillment

This is so true!

We have a much bigger IMPACT on the world when we help others.

And (if you’ve read any of my other blog posts you know) when we help others we also have a larger, longer lasting impact on our own happiness as well.

The good news is that we are all in a position that we can help others.

Some of us can donate to charities.

Some of us can help our neighbors by bringing in their mail, taking their leaves, etc if they are unable to do so themselves.

Some of us can go grocery shopping for a friend who is ill.

Some of us can lend a helping hand or even a smile to a stranger.

Some us us can send thank you cards to the people that have helped us in our lives.

No matter the method, we can all help someone and I fact lots of someone’s.

So we can all achieve fulfillment.

Have a fulfilling Monday!

YOUR Race

IMG_4347.JPG

This guy is probably very fast.

Odds are, I can’t match his speed on the ice.

mountain-bike-speed-big

This girl is probably very fast.

Odds are, I can’t match her speed on the mountain bike trail.

And odds are, the top guy probably can’t ice skate on a mountain bike trail as fast as she can ride, and she probably can’t ride as fast on the ice as this guy can skate.

The point is this:

THEY ARE GREAT AT THEIR RACES, BUT PROBABLY NOT AMAZING AT EACH OTHER’S.

You are the only person that is uniquely suited to running your race/your life.

And yet, you probably compare yourself to others all the time.

Today, focus on running YOUR race to the best of  YOUR ability, and forget about what anyone else is doing.

And when you do find yourself comparing, just picture a guy in roller-skates trying to take 1st place in the 200 meter backstroke in the pool… and realize that’s what you’re doing 😉

Have a wonderful Tuesday!

Drive your own car, Captain!

When you are driving down the highway, do you pull up next to the person driving in the next lane and try to figure out how they are driving?

Where are their hands positioned?

Are their windows down?

What temperature do they keep their air conditioning at?

What sort of music are they listening to?

Of course not!

You need to worry about how you drove your own vehicle.

The point is, no one can drive/walk/live your life except you! So why do we compare ourselves to others?

We should definitely learn from other’s mistakes and successes, sure, but ultimately we need to be at the helm of our own lives.

Get driving, because only YOU can take YOU to where YOU want to go!

Happy driving (might I suggest jamming to this song by The Surfaces? Just a suggestion, feel free to skip it, Captain 👨‍✈️)

Have a glorious Wednesday!

QUAREN-TOOLS

Hello everyone!

These are strange days indeed.

The Covid-19 epidemic is a scary one.

BUT WE CAN’T LET FEAR DRIVE OUR BUS.

Be cautious. Stay at home. Wash your hands. Eat well. Drink well. Think well. Maintain your health.

MAINTAIN YOUR SANITY!

It is ok to read up on the spread of the virus. Just don’t get caught up in it.

Make the most of the time you have at home with your families.

In some respects, you are gaining time to do things that you’ve always wanted to do, but have never had time for.

Jon Gordon (a tremendous motivational speaker/author) wrote The Energy Bus when during a personal crisis his world “slowed down” and he was able to write the book in 3.5 weeks. Since then the book has sold an unimaginable amount of copies, and launched a world-wide speaking and writing career for him.

By all means, social distance, but that opens to door to form better, stronger connections with our loved ones  we are close to.

Write letters to people that have influenced and inspired you in your lifetime.

Thank your parents.

Video call the grandparents.

Send thank you cards to veterans that have helped solidify our freedoms.

Write a book.

Write some poetry.

Sing songs. Even if it’s just in the shower.

Download audiomixing software and become your own DJ.

TikTok?

Dust off those old board games and play as a family.

Meditate.

Exercise.

Figure out what you do so well that others will want to see/read/hear how you do it and spread that around. Teach others via social media/email/video.

Re-organize your living space. Feng some serious Shui in your domicile!

Paint, color, draw…

Don’t let this time stifle your growth, instead allow it to be a vector to it’s spread!

And for goodness sakes, stop hoarding all the T.P!. 🙂

I love you all.

This too shall pass.

-Love and peace to you,

The path to excellence?

“There is no golden road to excellence; excellence is the golden road. Until you start down this road you will never get there.”-Jim Afremow “A Champions’s mind”.

It’s the manner in which you try to achieve your potential that defines you as a champion, not medals, titles or accolades.

“Results… Line please?”

screenwriting.jpgResults speak for themselves.”

How many times have you heard that?

It is uttered a lot, because it is very true.

However, it is only part of the story.

While it is true that the after picture is powerful when compared to the before.

The book is amazing when it is finished.

The recommendations due to the results people have achieved help drive others into our Chiropractic practice.

BUT….

The “whys” and the “hows” behind those results matter more.

The drive to improve, the will to win, the process to do both, those are the writers, the providers that give voice to the results.

When you want to lose weight, the why is what feeds the results.

When you want to write a book, the why is what puts pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard).

When you want to travel the world, the why is what purchases the first plane ticket.

The purpose that leads to the results are the screenwriters. The results just recite the lines.

Happy screen-writing my friends!
